The famous architect G. Valadier, who at the end of the 1700s designed the splendid square ‘Piazza del Popolo” in Rome, also designed this marvellous villa. One of his early works, the property appears in all its beauty at the end of a long tree-lined road. At 10kms from the town of Spoleto, Villa Valadier is a house in a grand scale bathed in warm, gentle colours with a rich noble history. The villa is at the summit of a hill that dominates the landscape and has 360° views that span all the way from Assisi to Spoleto. Surrounded by olive groves overlooking the Spoleto valley and the rolling green Umbrian countryside (Assisi, Montefalco, Spello, Trevi and Spoleto can all be seen in the distance), the villa is the heart of a spacious architectural complex which counts amongst its various buildings a chapel with columns. A large park also belongs to the property and the sundrenched pool is in the midst of olive groves and has beautiful views of Spoleto.
The splendid eighteenth century style of the property is reflected in the garden with its two stylish symmetrical canopies in wrought iron situated in front of the facade of the villa. The property is surrounded by 15 hectares of olive groves.
The villa has an independent entrance, a front garden and a private internal courtyard which is furnished for eating outdoors. On the north side of the villa, connected by an original private tunnel, the guest house increases the space and the charm of the villa. It is a building with three floors and is located on the slopes of the hill. At the back and adjacent to the villa there is another, smaller apartment which is the occasional residence of the owners when the villa is not occupied. The pool - about 70 metres from the main building and beyond the back walls of the private, neo-classical villa chapel on the south side of the hill - is surrounded by olive trees and enjoys panoramic views of the countryside. All of this creates the sense of charm and unique style of this gorgeous property. Inside the villa, some of the rooms still maintain the orginal gouache frescoes with scenes of hunting and pastoral life. All the bedrooms have picture-book views of the landscape from the windows and are furnished in early twentieth century style. Particularly original is the layout of some bathrooms, newly renovated, painted with lively pastel colours.
