You could define this original and welcoming property, which is located near Orvieto, as “the garden on calanchi”. Calamaio, surrounded by calanchi (rocky inland promontories), a natural phenomenon created by deep scarring landslides that are caused by the erosive action of water over hundreds of years, is close to the famous village Civita di Bagnoregio which is visible in the distance.
Three sides of the house are gravel and on one side is a geometric-shaped garden which is completely enclosed and extends down one side of the house and leads to the swimming pool.
The farmhouse is developed on two levels of land which allows direct access to the garden from every room except for one of the bedrooms. The sitting room has a glass wall which gives the sensation of living outside, even in the coldest months and is equipped with A/C.
During its recent renovation, the young owner wanted to highlight the rural aspect of the house, keeping some parts of its rocky walls exposed. The decoration reflects a youthful, contemporary and ethnic style, using simple Ikea style furniture.
The kitchen and its appliances are small and basic. To reach the house you go along a 500 mts gravel road, which is in adequate condition.
The house is located close to the beautiful city of art Orvieto and to very important Etruscan sites such as the famous Tarquinia. Due to the size of the kitchen we recommend this villa for 6 people.

good We had a very good time there. The major drawback for a 3 week stay was the kitchen size and lack of decent cooking gear. Not a huge issue, but given the distances from town and the lack of desire to drive after dark and drinking, eating becomes important. The directions were fine and the housekeeping was also fine. very good We had a lovely stay at Calamaio- the view from the living room is just stunning and the gardens were beautiful. The villa was great for us (family with 2 young children) and we loved being located in the countryside, but within easy reach of nearby towns. We had just a couple of comments:We thought that the "villa book" could be improved. For example, some maps of the area around the villa would be good (perhaps marking some of the restaurants and sights that were recommended in the guide, as we found some of the restaurants difficult to locate). Otherwise, we had a very relaxing week and loved the villa and its surrounding area. Thank you for all your assistance with this booking.
