This magnificent Italian castle is available for rent on a weekly basis. Italy boasts many castles, but few of them maintain such authenticity. Castello Ducale dates back to the early Middle Ages (1200 BC), during which it acted as the main focus of defence of the town of Gubbio against Perugia. Inaugurated in 2009 after four years of meticulous renovation, this unique historical residence has been transformed into the ultimate destination for a unique holiday in Umbria. Castello Ducale is situated near an untouched village, surrounded by forests, and meadows, and near the waters of the river Chiascio. The castle can be rented as a private retreat and is the ideal location for family or friends reunions.
The castle is part of an estate of 500 hectares, where forests and fields offer a variety of paths for horse riding and itineraries for amazing walks. A beautiful garden of 5.000 m2 surrounds the castle, with its rose garden, century-old trees, and a large swimming pool.
The owners of the estate are descendants of the family of Napoleon Bonaparte and they have elegantly furnished the living areas and bedrooms in the empire style with the family’s antique furniture.
Bedrooms have been constructed in the watchtower, two of them so large that they cover the entire perimeter of the tower.
The kitchen is a highly functional, professional stainless steel kitchen and is intended for use only by professional chefs and is more than adequate for catering for wedding receptions or parties. It has direct access to the inner courtyard of the castle as well as the other outdoor areas.
The guest quarters are independent but are also connected to the castle by an old secret passageway. Wheelchair users are welcome.
Together with the guest quarters, Castello Ducale can accommodate up to thirty guests. On request, a chef can be hired to provide dinner which may be enjoyed in the magnificent setting of the courtyard within the wonderful castle walls or otherwise outside the castle in the terrace area in front of the park, close to the kitchen.
The location of the castle allows for relaxed morning and afternoon excursions to Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi and Cortona. In addition, day trips to Siena, Florence, Montepulciano and Orvieto can easily be arranged. Staying at Castello Ducale means having a wonderful holiday in the place of your dreams, where you may find yourself recalling the feeling of being a ‘lady or a knight of the court’ in a natural and historical setting and where you cannot help forgetting the daily trials and tribulations of the 21st century.

Castle Ducale is a stunning location. The castle is beautiful, the grounds are lovely. Our family of 19 people enjoyed the rooms, the pool and the game room. The staff at the castle is superb. Friendly, accommodating, truly lovely people. They made breakfast every day that was delicious, and we had them prepare two dinners for us that were excellent. While we were there, we had a cooking class that was arranged by the castle staff. The two chefs who came in to teach the class and prepare our dinner were first class. Before you book, be sure to confirm the number of rooms in the castle you are booking. We were told we were booking the entire castle. But two days into our stay, we were told that we were using two more rooms than we booked, and that there would be an additional charge. It was a shame that this detail got in the way of a simply lovely stay.

"Castello Ducale is the true castle, recently renovated with lovely antiques. The Castello staff was amazing, communicative, and gracious, we loved them. We had access to the whole place, cooked in the kitchen, dined indoors and outside, and enjoyed many nights in the large living room. We were a group of 8-21 (27 in total) and stayed for three weeks. We settled into life on the property taking daily walks, 2 km just up the driveway! the pool is not heated but felt refreshing after a long walk or on a hot day. We used the chef for 9 meals for our group which were well prepared and served. Castello Ducale is worth a visit with a group!"

Service before travel: The owner of the castle was gracious enough to allow our group of 23 to film a short movie during our week stay from October 19-26, 2019. We required a great deal of coordination from day trips to a winery that would allow us to film, to a restaurant we wanted to film in in Perugia, as well as meal plans, shopping, etc. I couldn't have asked for more gracious help in making this week possible. Response was very quick and they located us a gorgeous winery, Arnaldo Capri and a wonderful restaurant, Il Moderno, to film in, as well as arranging transportation assistance. We wouldn't have been able to do this week without their tireless assistance.
Service while on trip: Fantastic! The chef and wait staff, Maria and Mariano, were so accommodating and helpful - we were very sorry to leave them! The food was delicious and they worked so hard to meet our every need. The staff at Home in Italy checked in with us to make sure all was going well and even came in person to see how our week was going when we filmed at Il Moderno! First class!
Villa location: Gorgeous! Very private, with lovely grounds, great walking paths. We were so fortunate with the weather. - sunny every day, mild temps, so we could take advantage of all the castle had to offer in the outdoors.

“I can't say enough great things about our time at Castello Ducale. The staff was incredible leading up to our stay. There were so many details in planning an event with 31 people, but our concierg did an amazing job. She was in constant contact with me and was ok with any and all of my requests- no matter how "out of the box" they may have been. When we arrived at Castello Ducale-it is somewhat remote-we couldn't believe how lovely it was! Everything was more beautiful than we imagined. The staff was incredible! Irini and Maria were gracious and kind hosts. They took care of us the whole week. The food was spectacular! We had archery lessons -HUGE HIT, cooking lessons -we still practice the lessons, took excursions! Not enough space here to list all of the cool things about the castle.
