Carmela is set at the foot of Monte Tezio, in a protected valley of Umbria region. Formerly a church immersed in the greenery of a once-abandoned valley, it has now been converted into a luxury family villa for holiday rentals. About half an hour by car to Tuscany, the position of Carmela is perfect to explore both regions.
The 11th-century church with its adjoining farmhouse has now been turned into an exquisite country house accommodating up to fourteen guests. The villa features eight bedrooms in total, with six doubles and two singles. Being the rooms restored using the original materials, the property is now a fascinating place to spend your holiday. The main church area together with a recently discovered small crypt is now an unusual elegant room, imposing in its sense of peace and history.
One kilometre of gravel road connects the villa to the main road. Umbertide, the nearest small town is about a fifteen-minute drive and Perugia is about twenty-five minutes away. The nearest village is Pierantonio and its shops are at ten minutes driving.
Various sports activities can be arranged in the area: Antognolla Golf Course is located only a five-minute drive from the villa. Lake Trasimeno, reachable in twenty-five minutes, offers a vast array of water sports including sailing, windsurfing and water skiing. Alternatively, you can visit one of the islands on the lake: Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese, wandering in the national parks, and discovering the local flora and fauna.
Tennis is available at a nearby private court located within the estate, reachable within a short drive, while horse riding is organized at a number of riding stables nearby where you can go for a ride in the countryside. If you just want to be a tourist, the area offers plenty of must-see sites such as Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto, Gubbio, and Spello. A stay at Carmela is perfect for all those seeking relaxation in the lush nature of Umbria, Italy's most fascinating and sacred territory.
