Villages and towns with an ancient history, that have preserved their most intimate and silent soul, far away from mass tourism. Fishing villages, castles inhabited by ghosts, cultural or natural oases hermitages.

The journey continues…and stops in the Frasassi Caves, in the Marche region. It is one of the most fascinating underground paths in the country among inlaid stalactites, gigantic stalagmites, small lakes enclosed between crystal arabesques, alabaster spears hanging from the majestic vaults. Kilometers and kilometers of halls and galleries (the total length is 18 kilometers), one more beautiful than the other, to be crossed in silence. These include the Grotta Grande del Vento, over 200 meters in total extension, the Ancona Abyss, a million cubic meters of wonder, the Bear room.

You can reach Abruzzo even just to go and breathe the mountain air of Campo Imperatore. It is a vast plateau, of glacial and karst-alluvial origin, located at about 1800 m of altitude in the province of L'Aquila. Stretching towards the sky, it is crossed by a scenic road that cuts it into two equal parts.

Traveling south, towards the Lazio region, there are unusual places and gardens where you can get lost in the labyrinth of wonders, such as the 16th century Villa Lante, in the Viterbo area. The central road leads to a spectacular system of waterfalls and water features that starts from the Fontana della Catena and ends in the Fountain of the Giants, which represents the Tiber and Arno rivers, that is, the good relations between the papacy and doctors.

And still to try is the bath in the thermal waters of the Grotta delle Ninfe in Cerchiara di Calabria, Cosenza. These Lusiadi nymphs jealously guarded their secret of eternal beauty, linked to the use of sulphurous waters. Today it is also a pleasure for mere mortals to enjoy the benefits of these warm waters in the spa complex. Finally Ortolano also suggests some excursions not to be missed on the islands.
