We have selected three locations for a romantic escape, a 3-day couple getaway in suggestive and unforgettable places.
Valentine's Day in Verona, Italy
If you want to follow the tradition of every lover, you cannot miss a weekend in the romantic city par excellence:
Verona, the city where Shakespeare set the most famous love story of all time: Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare never visited Verona but knew it through the writings of well-known writers who inspired him for his most famous work.
So, also thanks to William Shakespeare, Verona is today a city widely known and admired in the world.
The myth of the two lovers is represented by the medieval Juliet's House, its alleys and courtyards, and the ancient squares of the city.
Experience Verona in Love from February 12 to February 16, 2020, an event in which the most evocative glimpses of the city are colored red with decorations and lights; the city will host heart-shaped markets where you can buy typical products, have tastings, and walk hand in hand to discover the mysteries and legends of Romeo and Juliet, enjoying with themed dinners.
Verona is to be visited all year round for its concentration of artistic, historical and cultural testimonies, immersed in the evocative atmosphere of alleys and squares, completed by the flavours of traditional and territorial cuisine.
What to see in Verona during a weekend or a short holiday:
The Roman Amphitheater, better known by the name of "Arena", is, together with Romeo and Juliet, the symbol that makes Verona famous all over the world and the first thing that tourists choose to see as soon as they set foot in the city. Probably built around the first century, the Arena, like all amphitheatres, hosted gladiator shows. A great stage for important musical performances, the Arena continues to preserve its millenary function, even if with less bloody shows!
The Church of San Zeno Maggiore, one of the greatest examples of Romanesque architecture in Italy.
Romantic Garda Lake, Italy
The perfect destination for a Valentine's Day, Lake Garda is full of ideas and attractions for the right mix of nature, culture and relaxation.
The first step to choose is Sirmione, with its suggestive views, the historic village and its peninsula that juts out onto the lake. It is a village to be explored on foot, starting from the Catullo Caves. The archaeological area of the Catullo Caves preserves the remains of one of the largest residential villas in northern Italy. Located in an exceptional position, on the tip of the Sirmione peninsula, it dominates the entire basin of Lake Garda from the top of the rocky spur. The villa occupies an area of about 2 hectares and is surrounded by a historic olive grove, consisting of over 1500 plants. Inside the archaeological area, since 1999 the small but relevant Archaeological Museum of Sirmione has been open, which displays exhibits from Sirmione and some sites in the lower Garda area.
The Scaliger Castle is a must. It is an extraordinary example of a lake fortification and one of the most spectacular and best-preserved Scaliger fortresses in Garda. Built over the middle of the fourteenth century, a dock belongs to the castle which still today contains a small portion of the lake.
Lake Garda is also enchanting to visit by motorboat, from a very scenic perspective.
To spend your evening, you can move to nearby Desenzano, where you can enjoy an aperitif and a dinner. We recommend a romantic walk along the walls of the Castle of Desenzano, which overlooks the lake. Your romantic weekend can go further north, towards Gardone Riviera, one of the most famous places in all Lake Garda. In the area, we have selected for you these luxury villas for vacation rentals.

Maremma, Tuscany
If you want a “slow” Valentine's Day, dedicated to wellness and culture, we recommend the south of Tuscany in Maremma, a romantic weekend between thermal springs, villages and bucolic panoramas. An itinerant stay to discover ancient Etruscan towns such as Saturnia, a village that within its archaeological park contains evidence of Etruscan and Roman times, suggestive natural thermal waterfalls and the famous “Cascate del Mulino”. Already known in ancient times, they are among the most renowned spas in the world. Continue towards Sovana, a land of tuff, an ancient vital Etruscan town, then a medieval, Renaissance and episcopal centre. A little further on, you find Sorano, another ancient city of the most flourishing Etruscan era, where you can browse among the artisan shops that create picturesque ceramic artefacts, visit the Renaissance fortress and the archaeological park.
Your next stop is Pitigliano, a millenary centre located on a cliff, also dug out of the tuff: the ideal is to plan a visit at sunset, to fill your eyes with a romantic and suggestive view.
