From Rome to Milan, passing through Gubbio, Bologna and Salerno: here is where you can admire some of the most beautiful Christmas decorations in Italy.
Many Italian cities celebrate the holidays with various initiatives: thanks to illuminations and Christmas trees full of colored lights, the streets are filled with the typical festive atmosphere.

Bologna, the lyrics by the Italian singer Lucio Dalla illuminate the city

Bologna

In Bologna, the Christmas lights are dedicated to the songs of Lucio Dalla. The verses of the Bolognese singer-songwriter who died in 2012 returned to illuminate the Emilian capital. In 2020 the lyrics of "Futura", a masterpiece by Lucio Dalla, were illuminated on the very central Via d'Azeglio.

Gubbio, the tallest Christmas tree in the world

Gubbio

In Umbria, the town of Gubbio lights up with magic with the largest Christmas tree in the world. This special Christmas tree is made up of over 800 luminous bodies scattered along the slopes of Mount Ingino, powered by renewable sources. The largest Christmas tree in the world, more than 650 meters high, is illuminated as usual on the eve of the Immaculate Conception.

Rome, Christmas decorations

Rome

The city of Rome, every year, is cheerfully colored at Christmas: in 2020 "Spelacchio", the most famous Christmas tree in the world, is back in Piazza Venezia. It is a natural spruce of “Abies Nordmanniana” about 23 meters high, illuminated with 100 thousand LED lights and decorated with 800 spheres of four different colors. A Christmas tree is also set up in Piazza del Vaticano, in front of St. Peter's Basilica: in 2020, the protagonist is a majestic 28-meter spruce from Slovenia. You will find many lights on, then, also in via Condotti and via del Corso, in the historic center of Rome.

The super-technological Christmas tree in Milan

Milano

The nerve center of Christmas in Milan is Piazza Duomo: in 2020 a super-technological Christmas tree was raised, sponsored by Coca-Cola. Over the years the Duomo tree has become the symbol of Christmas for the city of Milan, and Coca-Cola has chosen to create a poetic and sustainable tree this year. The central tree is surrounded by small live trees that will be replanted at the end of the Christmas period, creating a green legacy for the Lombard capital. The lights that illuminate the tree are visible from different points of the city to communicate the living energy of the heart of Milan, even from a distance.
With this tree, Milan invites everyone to donate, rediscovering the value of solidarity and the pleasure of making gestures of generosity. For the fourth consecutive year, Coca Cola is alongside the most needy, with a project that will allow them to collect food products for at least 2 million meals.
In the city, the lights are also lit in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, in via Piero della Francesca, in via Dante and in Viale Monza.

Artist's lights: the illuminations of Salerno

Salerno

The virtual journey to discover the best Christmas decorations in Italy ends in Salerno, whose lights have always been considered among the most beautiful in the country. Every year the main streets of the city are colored with the luminous works of art of "Artist's Lights". In 2020, the event was postponed due to the pandemic but citizens were equally invited to illuminate and color the city.
