There is a place suspended in time in Umbria, on the border with Tuscany. Castello di Reschio appears as a fusion between the present and the past. To reach it you have to cross the Niccone valley, a splendid area of wild beauty situated in the north of the region and south of Cortona.
Hotel
Probably built around the year 1050, the Reschio Castle is a manor that is accessed by a single entrance door. It consists of a ring of walls, towers and a noble dwelling.
It is thought that the Reschio area was once under the Etruscan supremacy.
The name Reschio itself derives from "Resculum", the Latin name that indicates a fortification.
Today, this thousand-year-old castle is a luxury hotel immersed in an estate of 1,500 hectares, with exquisitely renovated rooms, a mix of design, style and comfort in an unrivalled setting.
The castle is dotted by nine bespoke farmhouses across a breathtaking landscape; an ultimate barefoot luxury escape, the most exclusive sanctuary where to take relaxation to the next level.
Casa Suore
The surrounding countryside, both on and off the estate, gives you plenty of reasons to go off the beaten track. Such a relaxing retreat, after the word of mouth in Hollywood and everywhere VIP live, is now one of the preferred locations loved by international celebrities.
Among the many personalities who have chosen to unwind in this historic estate on the Tuscan-Umbrian border, the names of Anthony Hopkins, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham stand out.
The confidentiality of the owners, the Bolza, a noble Austro-Hungarian family of Italian origin, is impenetrable when it comes to disclosing names. However, it has been "betrayed" by the guests themselves. Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson, who posted a picture of the pool on social media, made their retreat recognizable due to the unmistakable shape of the pool, mirroring the castle.
Bolza family
In addition to the Castle luxury hotel and the nine high-end villas available for weekly rentals, the estate offers a variety of activities that also include unusual and unconventional experiences.
Among these, you can choose to enjoy the idyllic Umbrian atmosphere on horseback, on a mountain bike or on foot immersing yourself in stunning vineyard-filled vistas, or packing a picnic and breathing in the scent of the meadows by the lake.
Arrighi
The hotel restaurant Alle Scuderie proposes locally-inspired dishes which and itself on using homemade produce, including honey, olive oil, pasta, and wine. If you fancy venturing into the world beyond, the hilltop town of Cortona is only a short drive away.
